About LZX

Mission

LZX takes creative, experimental video tools to their next levels. We explore an alternate universe, parallel to the mainstream of broadcast equipment, desktop video, and GPU processing. LZX designs are informed and inspired by historical video synthesizers, conventional video production, and less familiar technologies such as analog computing. Our goals are to preserve and expand upon innovative, expressive video tools that have empowered artists ever since the 1960's. Deep commitments to experimental video and the people who create it have motivated our ongoing development of this unique art form. In contrast to working on a computer, working with a video synth is a tactile, embodied, performance-oriented medium, and it's fun!

History

LZX started as a DIY project in 2008. Over the years, we've developed several generations of modular instrument designs. These series are branded as:

  • Visionary (2011-2015)
  • Expedition (2015-2018)
  • Orion (2018-2022)
  • Gen3 (2022-present)
  • P-Series (2024-present)

LZX products are manufactured in Portland, Oregon at the LZX workshop.
